A Haunting

If the stars will shine tonight, I think i’ll be just fine.
Burning holes through the dark, to all the places I used to hide.
I think i’m the ghost that’s been haunting me.
I’m kept awake by the sound of my own breathing.
Is this what i’m meant for? Is this my whole story?
Or will I move forward like my fathers before me?
The Stars will shine (I can feel it coming now).
And I’m terrified (of the floods flooding me out).
Just like the lines in constellations, I’m nowhere to be found.
Now the only thing that comes out of my throat is the loneliest sound.
I can feel it coming now. Like a ghost to myself, i’m failing to thrive.
I can catch anything, not even my breathing.
I’ve been falling down for some time, God, what’s wrong with me?
Just like the lines in constellations, I’m nowhere to be found.
Now the only thing that comes out of my throat is the loneliest sound.
Just like the ghost that moves in and out of my body,
I’m screaming, I’m screaming out to you, can you hear me now?

Instead of sitting with me to watch the sunset,
you ran for the horizon in the opposite direction.
Now i’m floating there, like the blood in my veins
and my lungs searching for air.
If time could stand still, it would have in that moment,
Holding your half-hearted atonement.
Instead of sitting with me to watch the sunset,
you ran for the horizon in the opposite direction.
Am I just the season?
Or am I the reason that you’re still breathing?
Don’t forget about me.

Skin Age

It’s been so long.
Rebuild this body from memory i’ve been holding onto.
I tried my hand at making amends with time,
but i’m still holding onto my youth.
Then there’s you.
Leaving me breathless with every word you speak,
And every time you look at me.
I can’t believe you chose me to be everything you need
(And I swear I will always be)
The light behind your eyes will never leave mine.
You’re gonna fade away, but I promise you won’t fade,
you won’t fade away alone.
I’m caught between your lips and your tongue,
and i’ve been there since we were young,
and I saw your skin age.
I’m not a poet but you make me one,
and I could write you about a thousand songs
about what time couldn’t take away.
The light behind your eyes will never leave mine.
You’re gonna fade away, but I promise you won’t fade, you won’t.
It’s been so long.
Rebuild these lovers from memory i’ve been holding onto.
So take my hand, we’ll make amends with time
because i’m still holding onto you.
The light behind your eyes will never leave mine.
You’re gonna fade away, but I promise you won’t fade,
you won’t fade away alone.

The Current

I can feel the waves rushing through me,
and through every broken bone in my body.
I can’t keep this up for much longer.
Holding my breath for days isn’t making me stronger.
And when I’m swallowed by the depths,
and the sea has taken it’s grasp on me,
I’ll close up as i’m fighting words
and fighting thoughts of things i’ve never heard.
Catch me, when i’m falling through.
Dismantle me to make something new.
I’m broken, but i’m wanting to be fixed.
So help me swim against the current.
When i’m swallowed by the depths,
and I become a part of it,
the cold current drags against my skin,
I open my mouth and feel the water rush in.
Pulling down on my arms and legs,
searching for any means of escape.
I can feel the waves rushing through me,
and through every broken bone.
When i’m swallowed by the depths,
and I become a part of it,
the cold current drags against my skin,
I open my mouth and feel the water rush in.
